Monday, January 9, 2017, The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a 911 call to 2213 Urquhart Street. The first company arrived to find a one-story wood frame dwelling with fire coming from the back of the home and spreading to the house next door. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire which had consumed the home. The house next door received exterior damage.
The fire started when the resident accidentally dropped an aerosol can near a gas water heater; which exploded when fumes were released. The resident, a 48 year old male received minor burns and was transported to University Hospital by Emergency Medical Service to be treated. There were no other reported injuries.
