Two Alarm Fire 4225 Maple Leaf Drive

January 11, 2017

On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a 911 call to an apartment building in the 4200 block of Maple Leaf Drive.  The first company arrived to find a two-story wood framed multi-family dwelling with smoke coming from the attic.  The NOFD officer in charge immediately struck a second alarm as fire spread throughout the plywood decking in the attic.  Due to the rapid response of fire personnel the blaze was quickly extinguished.  The fire was contained to the attic area but two of the apartments received heavy smoke and water damage.  4225 Maple Leaf, a vacant apartment that was under renovation is where the fire originated; and 4223 Maple Leaf was an occupied apartment.  A total of six family members were displaced due to the incident and will be assisted by American Red Cross.  The cause of the fire was due to a malfunction in the electrical panel; there were no reported injuries.
