Suicide Victim Retrieved From Lake Pontchartrain

On Friday, December 13, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) and New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) recovered the body of a man in Lake Pontchartrain.   Construction workers working on the sea wall reported a man shooting himself in the head and falling into the lake in the 8000 block of Lakeshore Drive at approximately 9:51 AM on Thursday, December 12, 2013.  Authorities found blood stains on the sea wall where workers reported seeing the incident.  NOFD and NOPD boats were dispatched to the scene and searched the area until dusk finding nothing; they decided to resume at dawn the next day.


On Friday, December 13, 2013 at approximately 10:00 A.M., The NOFD’s Fire Boat Blaze using the boat’s side-scanning sonar technology; located an object 5 to 7 feet from the seawall, which proved to be the body of the victim.  From shore NOPD was able to use their equipment to retrieve the body and the gun from the sonar location. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
