Car Crash Claims The Life Of An Eight Month Old Baby In New Orleans East

July 16, 2013

New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Unit is investigating a car accident that left an eight month old boy dead in New Orleans East.  The accident occurred at approximately 9:00 A.M., on I-10 Service Road South near Westlake Drive.

The 23-year-old female driver of a red Ford Focus and her eight month old baby were traveling Eastbound on I-10 Service Road when for reasons unknown, the driver lost control of her vehicle, veered into oncoming traffic and struck a Nissan Titan truck driven by a 63-year-old man.

The eight month old baby died at the hospital and the mother, the 23-year-old driver was not injured in the incident.  No one else was inside of the vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan Titan was the only person in the vehicle and suffered minor injury.

The investigation is ongoing.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The lead Fatality Investigator is Edgar Edwards and can be contacted at 658-6237.
