NOPD Looking for French Quarter Serial Purse Snatcher

August 14, 2013

Eighth District detectives need your help in identifying a man who pulled off three purse-snatchings in the French Quarter over the last two days.

The man first struck in the 1000-block of St. Philip Street yesterday just after midnight.  He is also suspected of snatching a purse from a woman early this morning in the 900-block of St. Louis Street, and then taking another woman’s bag in the 800-block of Orleans Avenue after that.

The victims describe the man as African-American, approximately 5’07” tall, 130-140 pounds, with a thin build, a dark complexion and black dread locks.  They say he was wearing a white tank top and dark pants.

The link below shows surveillance video of the suspect committing the purse-snatching on St. Philip. He first asked the victim for directions to Bourbon and St. Louis Streets.  The victim gave him the directions, and when she tried to walk away from him, the suspect pulled at her purse- which was strapped around her neck.  The strap broke, and the suspect ran with the purse down St. Philip to Burgundy Street and then unknown.

If you think you’ve seen this suspect or you may know who he is, please call CrimeStoppers at (504)-822-1111.
