Man Killed in Gentilly Car Crash

September 19, 2013

(September 18, 2013) New Orleans Police Fatality Section is investigating a traffic accident that left a42-year-old man dead. The accident occurred this evening around 9:30pm, at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and Prentiss Street. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.  

The driver of a Nissan Rouge was traveling river bound on Elysian Fields at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and struck a green Nissan Sentra that was traveling westbound on Prentiss Street. After the crash, the Rogue spun out of control and struck a house at the corner of Elysian Fields and Prentiss and the Sentra subsequently crashed into a signal light pole on Elysian Fields

The driver of the Sentra was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the Rogue was transported to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and a Toxicology exam will be conducted.

Fatality Investigator Richard Blackmen is in charge of the investigation.
