Arrest Made in Fatal Hit and Run on the Highrise

December 01, 2013

(December 1, 2013)-Yesterday Members of the NOPD’s Fatality Section arrested 44-year-old Ervin Freeman, Jr, for the November 24,2013 fatal Hit and Run that claimed the life of 29-year-old Danielle Rhone and 2-year-old Kaedan Boyd.

Fatality Detectives Edgar Edwards and Anthony Pontiff with the assistance of Sergeant Bernard Crowden have been diligently working this case linking evidence to the accident. They were able to identify a “person of interest”. From the evidence gathered they located Ervin Freeman, Jr early yesterday and brought him to the Fatality Compound for questioning. During the interview Freeman gave several conflicting inconsistencies of his account of that night. Freeman finally confessed to detectives that he was driving his 1997 Ford F-150 that struck the victims and immediately after the accident he abandoned the truck and walked away from the scene.

With the facts and circumstances surrounding this investigation Freeman was booked into Central Lockup and charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of Felony Hit and Run.

Freeman has been previously arrested for Aggravated Arson, issuing Worthless Checks, Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License.

The NOPD’s Fatality Section was in charge of the investigation.
