Juvenile Killed in New Orleans East Fatality

May 19, 2014

The New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section is investigating a fatality that left a 6-year-old girl dead.  The incident occurred shortly after noon near the I-10W/Morrison Road exit.

A 36-year-old woman was traveling westbound on I-10W in a Chevrolet Suburban when for reasons unknown, after passing the Morrison Road exit, she lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times.  The 6-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle and died en route to the hospital.  The vehicle was also occupied with three other girls, ages 6, 9, and 10-years-old.   The woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition while the three girls were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Charges against the driver are pending.

Fatality Investigator Kevin Thompson is in charge of the investigation.

The New Orleans Police Department, under the leadership of Superintendent Ronal W. Serpas, is engaged in a complete transformation in its approach to ensuring that New Orleans is a safer place to live, work and visit.  The police force is committed to transparency, accountability, collaboration and integrity.
