Getting a new roof in New Orleans? You'll need a permit for that!
Single and Two-family homes ONLY
The City of New Orleans remains committed to supporting homeowners as they face rising insurance costs and prepare for future storm-related damage. As part of that commitment, Ordinance 30,235 MCS now requires a separate residential re-roofing permit for any roof replacement work affecting 50 percent or more. Minor roofing work, defined as less than 50 percent replacement, is exempt from permitting unless it meets other criteria that would otherwise require a permit.
This policy is intended to help homeowners qualify for reduced insurance premiums or meet roofing grant program requirements by providing a formal, independent record of completed roof replacements.
Commercial Roofing
Commercial roofing projects (Commercial properties are defined as 3 or more family units and commercial properties such as business uses) can NOT use this roofing permit and must apply for a Structural OR Non-Structural renovation permit.
