Mayor Landrieu and Councilmember James Gray Join CVS/Pharmacy to Break Ground on Lower Ninth Ward Store

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and District E Councilmember James Gray joined CVS/pharmacy to break ground on a new store in the Lower Ninth Ward. This is a major milestone for this area, marking the first major retailer to commit to a project in the neighborhood since Hurricane Katrina. The new store is scheduled to open in January 2016, bringing 20 new full and part-time permanent jobs to the community.

Construction Begins on State-of-the-Art Cobalt Medical Center in Mid-City

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA) CEO Quentin L. Messer, Jr. and executives from Cobalt Medical Development celebrated the start of construction at the site of the company’s new rehabilitation hospital in Mid-City.The $24 million project, located on a formerly vacant lot, will result in a state-of-the-art medical facility to treat traumatic brain injuries, concussions, Parkinson’s Disease and other conditions.

Mayor Signs Ordinances, Lease for 2 Canal Street Redevelopment

NEW ORLEANS - Upon the City Council today adopting the ordinances and lease related to the redevelopment of 2 Canal Street  with Carpenter/Woodward (Four Seasons), Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement after affixing his signature to the ordinances and the lease for the project in a signing ceremony held today in the Mayor's office.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Economic Development and Economic Opportunity Appointments

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced he has appointed two senior officials to help lead the City’s efforts to strengthen economic development and create more economic opportunities for New Orleans residents. Landrieu appointed Rebecca Conwell to serve as the Mayor’s senior advisor for economic development and Ashleigh Gardere as the Mayor’s senior advisor for economic opportunity and director of the City’s Network for Economic Opportunity.

Mayor Landrieu Welcomes Viking Cruises to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Governor Bobby Jindal and Viking Cruises Chairman Torstein Hagen selected New Orleans as the homeport for the company’s first North American river cruise itineraries. The Mississippi River cruises will operate from docking facilities near the French Quarter in New Orleans. Viking’s new service will create 416 new direct jobs for Louisiana-based operations and vessel crews, with an average salary of $40,000, plus benefits.

Copa Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service Between New Orleans and Panama

Panama City, Panama, Feb. 05, 2015Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A., {NYSE: CPA} and member of the Star Alliance global airline network, today announced it will begin nonstop service four times a week between New Orleans, La., and Panama, Republic of Panama, on June 24, 2015.  New Orleans will be Copa Airlines’ 11th U.S. destination and its 71st overall.

Allegiant Air Joins New Orleans Airline Roster

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is pleased to announce that Allegiant Air will begin nonstop service from four destinations beginning early February 2015, just in time for Mardi Gras. The nonstop destinations include Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; and Orlando-Sanford, FL.  Allegiant will operate from Concourse C.

City Announces Third Round of Small Business Assistance Fund Loan Program

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Today, the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development will launch the third round of the Small Business Assistance Fund (SBAF) loan program, a financing opportunity created by Mayor Landrieu in partnership with NewCorp, Inc. to support the growth of new and existing small businesses. The application period will be on a rolling basis. SBAF applications are currently available online at www.newcorpinc.com.
