Department of Labor Commits $8.2 Million to Support Workforce Development and Training in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, U.S. Congressman Cedric Richmond, Delgado Community College Chancellor Joan Davis and officials from across the city to feature recent commitments by the U.S. Department of Labor to support workforce development efforts in the region.

Renaissance RX Announces 425-Job Biomedical Expansion in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Today, LED Secretary Stephen Moret and Renaissance RX founder and CEO Tarun Jolly announced the biomedical company will create at least 425 new direct jobs and make an $8 million capital investment in a new headquarters location in the Central Business District of New Orleans. Founded in 2012 with five employees at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, Renaissance RX has experienced rapid growth.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Economic Opportunity Strategy for Disadvantaged Job Seekers and Businesses

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced a new comprehensive strategy to connect disadvantaged job seekers and businesses to new opportunities. Spearheaded by the Mayor, the Economic Opportunity Strategy seeks to introduce a new way of connecting all New Orleanians to the city’s economic growth through partnerships with local training providers, social service agencies, and community advocates.

Mayor Landrieu and District E Councilmember James Gray Announce Plans for New CVS/Pharmacy in Lower 9th Ward

NEW ORLEANS, LA- Mayor Mitch Landrieu and District E Councilmember James Gray announced today that CVS/pharmacy plans to open a new store in the Lower 9th Ward next year.  It marks the first major retailer to commit to a project in the neighborhood since Hurricane Katrina.

City Announces Plans for Redevelopment of Historic St. Roch Market

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans announced plans to complete the redevelopment of the historic St. Roch Market located at 2382 St. Claude Avenue. The City, through its public benefit corporation the New Orleans Building Corporation which manages the St. Roch Market, has selected Bayou Secret, LLC to operate the building.

City of New Orleans, Walmart Announce Grand Opening of Gentilly Walmart

NEW ORLEANS, LA – A new Walmart opened Wednesday, Aug. 13, following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 a.m. The new store is conveniently located at 4301 Chef Menteur Highway and is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

City of New Orleans, Walmart Announce Grand Opening of New Orleans East Walmart

NEW ORLEANS, LA – A new Walmart opened Wednesday, June 11, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, at 8 a.m. The new store at 6000 Bullard Ave. is conveniently located off of I-10 and is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. It provides New Orleans residents shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.

Chiquita Announces Company will Return Its Shipping Operations to Port of New Orleans After Four-Decade Hiatus

NEW ORLEANS,LA — Today, Mayor Landrieu  joined Gov. Bobby Jindal and Chiquita Brands International Inc. Senior Vice President Mario Pacheco to announce the company will relocate its shipping operations from the Port of Gulfport in Mississippi to the Port of New Orleans. Chiquita plans to ship 60,000 to 78,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs, per year at the Port of New Orleans, representing a roughly 15 percent increase in current container volumes there.

Mayor Landrieu and Councilmember Palmer Announce Agency Partnership to Redevelop Former City Incinerator Site in Algiers

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and District C Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer announced that the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Land Trust (LLT) will partner to demolish the former City incinerator site located at 2300 Hendee Street in Algiers. The blighted, City-owned structure has sat vacant since it closed in 1975. The demolition is the first step in an overall strategy to redevelop the site and put it back into commerce.
