Class "E" Electrician Trainee License

In order to ensure public safety through compliance with the International Construction Code (ICC) as adopted by the City of New Orleans as well as all other related state and parish regulations, electricians performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually an Electrical License from the City. Class E Electrician Trainees' ($30) Licenses.

Registration Process

New license applicants must first submit a complete application package based on their type of license request to tradelicenseinfo@nola.gov. All applications are subject to be reviewed by a team member. Upon completion of the review and all requirements are met, the applicant (qualifying party) will receive a scheduled appointment to come into our office in person for the processing of their license. 

Required Documents

All documents are required to be saved and attached as separate PDF or PNG or JPEG to your email.

  • A current signed statement by a current Master Class "A" License Holder Local or your Local Union Representative stating you are working under them as an Electrical Class E Helper/Trainee. The statement must be typed on offical company letterhead and addressed to Safety and Permits - Trade License Division requesting Helper’s License with the following:
    • Applicant's First and Last name
    • Master Class "A" License Holder's First and Last name printed
    • Signature
    • Date
    • For Master Class "A" License Holders include your Class "A" Electrical License Number
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Complete the respective Electrical License Application
  • Color passport photo or self-taken picture yearly.
    • PICTURE REQUIREMENTS: taken within 3 to 6 months for the date of application. Facing the camera, standing up, the top of the head to shoulders, no images in the background of the picture, no hats.
  • Copy of Driver’s License or State Identification and copy of previous license card upon renewal.

Renewal

Class "E" Electrician Trainee License can be renewed online through the One Stop App. Attach all required documents to your renewal application in the One Stop App.

Duration

Expires on the license holder’s day of birth (as printed on issued Trade License card). Renewal periods starts 90 days before the license holder’s birthday.

Fees

  • Class E Electrician Trainee $30.00 annual (delinquent fee of $5.00 per month/ 1st business day after birthday).

Pick-Up

The qualifying party or authorized agent is required to pick-up their City of New Orleans Trade License card. License pick-up is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM from the Department of Safety and Permits offices located at 1340 Poydras St, Suite 800, New Orleans, LA 70112.
