GROWW Coordinator

Description

To perform this full-time position successfully, the GROWW (Girls Reaching Out Works Wonders) Coordinator must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this document represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

GROWW is a pre-adjudication alternative to detention program that seeks to ensure youth return for Court appearances and do not re-offend while under supervision. The program is committed to family-focused programming that empowers young men to lead healthy, safe, and productive lives. GROWW wraps services around the family and child through face-to-face contact and support groups.

Duties

  • Act as a mentor to all girls participating in the program either in a one-on-one or small group session.
  • Conduct bi-weekly afternoon mentoring sessions with clients.
  • Incorporate group counseling specifically developed for African American girls.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of needs for youth wherein data is collected at multiple points from intake and referrals throughout the duration of participation in the program.
  • Ensure participants complete approved personal self-assessments that addresses self-awareness, self-esteem, and life skills.
  • Ensure the GROWW Licensed Professional Counselor schedules time to meet with families at participant's home to complete in-depth assessments of families and living dynamics that are impacting each participant.
  • Review participant's case plans and any referrals obtained from other Court programs.
  • Work with families to determine individualized growth plan recommendations and referrals.
  • Supervise the coordination of services for youth/families assigned to GROWW consistent with the purpose goals, and objectives of the program.
  • Monitor/following up with clients on days mentoring groups are not in session to include phone calls, school visits, and parent contacts.
  • Collaborate with other court program staff on clients previously refer to said program, or • receiving duplicate services. • Assist youth and families with identifying community resources and other ancillary services to promote youth development.
  • Obtain and coordinate with presenters from community organizations to provide workshops and field trips for GROWW participants.
  • Meet with community-based partnerships and collaborators to support the goals of GROWW.
  • Provide prevention education materials and activities to promote youth development.
  • Ensure implementation of policies and practices developed for GROWW and court-related program policies and practices.
  • Manage communications through media relations, social media, etc.
  • Identify and implement strategies that build positive relations within the Court and with external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that technology is used appropriately for all operations (video conferencing, presentations).
  • Develop benchmarks or other protocols to aid in meeting established performances measures/goals.
  • Attend Court on behalf of assigned youth, if required or requested.
  • Report on progress of youth to the Court and follow up on recommendations.
  • Follow up with youth and families to ensure strategies or other interventions used during mentoring sessions are working or need adjusting.
  • Develop weekly/monthly progress reports, program data, and daily logs.
  • Maintain budget and tracking expenditures/transactions. • Maintain files on all youth assigned.
  • Maintain progress notes on all youth assigned.
  • Schedule and organize meetings/events.
  • Maintain agendas, sign-in sheets, handouts, and other documents pertinent to each activity.
  •  Answer or return phone calls related to client services.
  • Write or respond to letters related to client services.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of program goals.
  • Perform any other duties pertaining to GROWW as assigned.

Job Requirements and Difficulty of Work

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years’ experience in counseling or related field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, Coordinators and other departments, social service agencies, probation department and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, racial and cultural diversities, and disabilities.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Court information and records according to law.
  • Ability to recognize drug and alcohol abuse symptoms.
  • Ability to counsel and provide guidance to individuals and respond to situations that are of a sensitive nature.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Thorough understanding of the work of the court, including courtroom procedures.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques. • Knowledge of principles of supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of local social services, including eligibility criteria and referral process.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping, report preparation, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment and strong computer skills.
  • Ability to display enthusiastic and encouraging behavior with at risk youth.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to select, supervise and train volunteer staff.

Responsibility

The incumbent performs duties according to a flexible, customary routine with priorities determined by the Judges, Judicial Administrator, and service needs of the Court and public.
