Solid waste collection in the French Quarter and DDD occurs seven days a week, between 4:00am and 8:00 am. Properties may not leave containers or bags on public rights-of-way between the hours of 9:00am and 3:30pm.
Solid waste must not exceed the volume limit (35 gallon cart supplied by the City).
Residential properties: solid waste must be contained in carts with closed, tight-fitting lids or placed in 0.8 mil or greater, secured black plastic bags.
Commercial properties: solid waste must be contained in carts with closed, tigh-fitting lids or placed in 3.0 mil or greater, secured black plastic bags.
NOTE: Effective May 1, 2020, the City discontinued the daily evening solid waste collection (4:00pm - 6:00pm) in the French Quarter and DDD for eligible locations serviced by the City.
The City of New Orleans observes the following holidays, with solid waste and recycling collections suspended outside of the French Quarter and Downtown Development District (DDD). Contractors will implement alternative collection services for those routes affected by observed holidays by shifting all affected collection days forward one day (e.g., Observed Holiday occurs on Thursday, scheduled Thursday collections will occur on Friday, scheduled Friday collections will occur on Saturday).
Solid waste collections occur 365 days per year in the French Quarter and Downtown Development District (DDD). Recyclable materials collections do not occur on the holidays listed above in the French Quarter & Downtown Development District (DDD) and will resume on the next scheduled collection day.
