Towing Rules and Fees

The Department of Public Works Parking Division is responsible for enforcement of City ordinances in regard to public safety by managing curb space (on-street parking) in certain densely populated areas. Measures include ticketing and towing violating vehicles, immobilizing vehicles, and towing abandoned vehicles. This division is also responsible for establishing and managing residential parking zones throughout the City.

The City may tow cars immediately in the interest of public safety.

Offenses for which the City may tow a vehicle immediately include but are not limited to the following offenses;

  • Parking on a sidewalk (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking within three feet of the curb return in a public or private driveway (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking or obstructing a wheelchair ramp or bicycle ramp (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking within an intersection (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking on a crosswalk or within 20 feet of a crosswalk or an intersection (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking within 50 feet of a rail or railroad crossing; (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station; (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking alongside or opposite any street excavation when stopping, standing or parking would obstruct traffic; (citation fee - $40) 
  • Parking on the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street or any on-street bicycle parking area; (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking upon a bridge or within a highway tunnel or underpass; (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking alongside a neutral ground curb. (citation fee - $40) 
  • Parking any place where parking will obscure or obstruct visibility of any traffic control device; (citation fee - $40)
  • Parking Within a bicycle lane (citation $300)
