CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO HOLD PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING FOR MLK JR. BLVD. ROADWORK PROJECT

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that it will host a pre-construction community meeting about the Martin Luther King Blvd. (St. Charles - S. Claiborne) - Patch Mill Overlay project from 6-7 p.m. on April 26 at the Allie Mae Williams Multi-Service Center (2020 Jackson Street, second floor).

The project will include a vehicular lane reduction and parking lane shift between St. Charles Avenue and Clara Street in the lakebound direction of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and a vehicular lane reduction and parking lane shift between St. Charles Ave. and S. Robertson St. in the riverbound direction of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. This will provide protected bike lanes in both directions of travel. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2022 and will last approximately 14 months.

This project is designed to repave the roadway, replace damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons and install Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.

Community members can go to nola.gov/neo to register for the meeting. Registrants will receive a copy of the presentation, which will also be uploaded to roadwork.nola.gov/projects prior to the meeting.

This project is in coordination with the Moving New Orleans Bikes initiative to create 75 miles of a connected bikeway network across New Orleans. More information about this initiative can be found at nola.gov/mnob.

Since May 2018, the Department of Public Works has completed 99 projects with an estimated value of $282 million. At this time, 70 projects are under construction with an estimated value of more than $700 million.
