Criminal Justice Council

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council was established by ordinance in 1970 to coordinate crime control and criminal justice activities in New Orleans. In 2004, the body was renamed the Sanford "Sandy" Krasnoff New Orleans Criminal Justice Council after the late victims' rights advocate.

Resources

The Public Safety Assessment, or PSA, is a pretrial risk assessment that judges can use when deciding whether to release or detain a defendant before trial. The PSA uses data to produce two risk scores: one predicting the likelihood of committing a new crime if released pending trial, and another predicting the likelihood of failing to return for a future court hearing.

Racial Justice Iniatives

In October of 2020, the Ethnic and Racial Disparity Working Group was formed in partnership with the VERA Institute of Justice. The Working Group is supported by technical assistance provided by the VERA Institute of Justice, the MacArthur Foundation, and the 2020-2021 OCJC AmeriCorps VISTA.
