MAYOR CANTRELL AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS CELEBRATE GROUNDBREAKING ON DEW DROP INN RENOVATIONS
NEW ORLEANS – Mayor LaToya Cantrell today joined Louisiana State Representative Tanner Magee, Speaker Pro Tempore, community leaders, project stakeholders and community members to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration of the Dew Drop Inn Hotel and Lounge. The historic location will be renovated as a 17-room boutique hotel and live music venue, with a resort-style pool accessible by memberships and daily passes.
“We are here today celebrating bringing what was once known as the ‘South’s swankiest nightclub’ back to the City of New Orleans!” said Mayor Cantrell. “The City has been intentional about partnering with small developers that can do mighty things, and with their help, we have been focused on revitalizing this historic area. From Louisiana to Simon Bolivar Avenues, this neighborhood is seeing the results of us leveraging in our dollars strategically.”
In addition to the redevelopment of the Dew Drop Inn, the Louisiana legislature has also proposed a New Orleans Rock & Roll Museum to neighbor the Dew Drop Inn and support the revitalization of Central City and the LaSalle Street Cultural Corridor.
"This is a historic day for New Orleans and Louisiana,” said Speaker Pro Tempore Magee. “The Dew Drop Inn is one of the most important cultural sites in the United States and its redevelopment signifies New Orleans' rightful stature as America's first city of music."
“The Dew Drop Inn means so much to our city and our culture,” said Curtis Doucette, Jr., the project’s developer. “We are looking forward to celebrating the history and continuing the legacy! It’s been a long time coming and I couldn’t be more excited that this is actually, finally happening.”
