CITY OF NEW ORLEANS DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE ANNOUNCES NEW REVENUE COLLECTION SYSTEM
NEW ORLEANS — The Department of Finance’s Bureau of Revenue today announced that they have begun implementing a new Revenue Collection System.
This new sales tax collection system, GenTax, will not only aid the Bureau of Revenue but will also provide taxpayers with an online portal and new channels to communicate with the City. The upgraded customer portal will provide real-time access to account data, allowing for self-service on existing accounts. There is also a chat feature that can provide answers to frequently asked questions, as well as the opportunity to talk to customer service staff.
GenTax will assist the City in maximizing collections by leveraging advanced technologies and reimagining the department’s service to the City. The system will take the department in a new direction with workflows, daily dashboards and integrated modules with embedded and automated discovery analytics. With this new system, the department will be empowered with business intelligence timelines, deadlines and processes, thereby reducing the need for manual interventions.
The system will integrate the City’s audit program and endow the audit team with skip-tracing leads to locate unregistered businesses and seek non-compliant businesses that do not wish to participate in remitting collected taxes.
The Assessor’s Office is also participating in this cooperative endeavor that will greatly benefit both agencies as they continue the path toward service to the City.
