The Department of Parks and Parkways manages over 2,000 acres of public parks, squares, recreation areas, neutral grounds, a golf course, and more across New Orleans. These community spaces see over 13 million visits yearly for enjoyment, events, exercise, and neighborhood gatherings. Over 150,000 street trees also line roadways to enhance quality of life.

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways today announced that The Back Nine will replace The Munch Factory as the restaurant vendor at Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Municipal Golf Course, effective January 3, 2026.
Following six years of service, The Munch Factory concluded its operations at the golf course on November 7. The Department of Parks & Parkways expressed gratitude for the restaurant’s service and contribution to the community over the years.

The City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways is accepting applications for the 2025 Parks and Parkways Tree Planting Grant. The grant provides $225,000 in funding to nonprofit organizations in Orleans Parish to plant trees on public property throughout the city.

This prestigious recognition highlights Jackson Square as one of the most iconic and beloved landmarks in the nation.
Located in the heart of the French Quarter and overlooking the scenic Mississippi River, Jackson Square, also known as the Place d'Armes, occupies 2.5 acres and attracts over 2 million visitors and locals annually. Designated a National Landmark in 1960, Jackson Square has long been admired for its beauty and historic significance. In 2012, the American Planning Association honored it as one of its “Great Places in America,” citing its accessibility, charm, and status as a vibrant gathering place.

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans proudly announces its recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation as a 2024 Tree City USA, honoring the city's commitment to planting, growing, and maintaining trees to benefit the community. New Orleans also received the Growth Award for exceeding the four Tree City USA standards, which include maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and hosting an Arbor Day celebration

On Saturday, Dec. 14, beginning at 7 a.m., the Department of Parks & Parkways will close the Interstate 10 on ramps of Tulane Avenue (I-10 East) and Orleans Avenue (I-10 West) to complete vegetation and tree pruning. Vehicular traffic will be detoured from the Tulane Avenue entrance further eastbound on North Claiborne Avenue to access the next on ramp at Dumaine Street. The detour on Orleans Avenue will direct traffic further west bound on South Claiborne Avenue to access the next on ramp past Gravier Street. This work will address trimming of intentionally planted trees and palms at these locations and removal of invasive vegetation to improve visibility for drivers
