The City of New Orleans announces that Orleans Parish residents can now apply for a residential re-roofing permit through the Department of Safety and Permits, starting today. A re-roofing permit must be obtained prior to the replacement of 50 percent or more of a roof on one-and-two-family dwellings. This new permitting process resulted from the passing of Ordinance 30,235 MCS.
The City of New Orleans remains committed to supporting homeowners as they face rising insurance costs and prepare for future storm-related damage. As part of that commitment, Ordinance 30,235 MCS now requires a separate residential re-roofing permit for any roof replacement work affecting 50 percent or more of the roof on one- and two-family dwellings. Minor roofing work, defined as less than 50 percent replacement, is exempt from permitting unless it meets other criteria that would otherwise require a permit.
