ORLEANS PARISH DROP-OFF LOCATION AVAILABLE FOR THANKSGIVING COOKING OIL DISPOSAL

The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation, in partnership with the Office of Resilience & Sustainability, is encouraging Orleans Parish residents to dispose of used cooking oil responsibly this holiday season. Improper disposal of cooking oil, such as pouring it down the drain, can cause significant damage to the City’s sewer infrastructure, leading to costly repairs and environmental hazards.

City of New Orleans Provides Update on Solid Waste and Recyclable Materials Collection for Thanksgiving Holiday

The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation today announced the Thanksgiving holiday collection schedule for residents and businesses at eligible properties that receive solid waste and recyclable materials collection services by the City. 

Outside of the French Quarter and Downtown Development District, there will be no curbside trash or recycling collection at eligible properties serviced by the City on Thursday, Nov. 27

Paint Reclamation Project by the City of New Orleans and the Green Project Begins Tuesday, April 22

For the eighth year, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation is partnering with The Green Project on a Paint Reclamation Project. From Tuesday, April 22, through Saturday, April 26, residents will be able to pick up reusable paint processed from the City’s Annual Household Hazardous Waste Materials Collection Day, which was held on April 12. Orleans Parish residents dropped off a significant amount of paint at the event, which welcomed more than 627 vehicles.

City of New Orleans Announces Public Safety Preparations for French Quarter Fest, Issues Traffic and Transportation Reminders

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by the City’s Unified Public Safety Command Team to announce public safety measures ahead of French Quarter Fest, which is expected to bring a large number of visitors to New Orleans. Residents are encouraged to prepare for heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic and to celebrate safely throughout the weekend.

Due to parade delays, Recycle Dat! is rescheduling its Special Access Event and Sorting Demo at Recycle World to Wednesday, Feb. 26. from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 from 1 – 3 p.m. This interactive mega-recycling station offers an exclusive look at how Mardi Gras waste—beads, cans, and glass—is being sorted and diverted from landfills in real time.

City of New Orleans to Provide Free Paper Shredding During Recycling Drop-Off Event, Saturday, Sept. 14

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the City of New Orleans’ Department of Sanitation will host a paper shredding event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. Given the high demand for Shred Day events, it is recommended that residents arrive early to take advantage of shredding services before capacity has been exhausted.
