On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 6:29 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported fire at 4512 Papania St. The first NOFD company arrived on the scene of this working fire at the Mark VII Apartments, at 6:37 a.m. A second alarm was requested almost immediately at 6:39 a.m., as NOFD personnel worked to simultaneously assess the situation, begin fire ground operations and conduct evacuations of apartments threatened by this incident.
It was determined that the fire originated in a second-story apartment, number 39 of building 4510, and extended to two apartments to the immediate right through a common attic space. The residents of the apartment of origin told NOFD personnel that the fire began at or around the kitchen stove. Seventeen NOFD units, supported by fifty NOFD Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 7:04 a.m. A total of twelve apartments, two unoccupied, were affected by this incident. Four received direct fire damage and the others were first floor apartments damaged by water and smoke. A total of ten households were displaced by this incident, twelve adults and two children. The American Red Cross has been requested to the scene to assist those that suffered losses during this incident. Entergy Electric assisted with the mitigation of this incident.
