Cold Weather Expected Overnight as City Monitors Conditions and Expands Shelter Access

The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP), in partnership with the New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) and the Office of Homeless Services and Strategy (OHSS), is monitoring cold weather conditions overnight on Saturday, January 17, 2026.  During the early morning hours on Sunday, January 18, 2026, “feels like” temperatures are forecast to dip to near freezing for a few hours, with the potential for light rain or brief sleet.

New Orleans Expands Access with Citywide Language Translation Initiative

Building Equity Through Real-Time Translation and Data-Driven Policy

New Orleans has joined a growing number of cities integrating Pocketalk into public service delivery. With 150 available Pocketalk devices distributed across departments, the city is helping bridge communication gaps and ensure every resident and visitor can engage with the community, regardless of the language they speak.

The Mayor’s Office of Human Rights and Equity learned about cities using Pocketalk through use in cities like Seattle, Washington and the Municipal Language Access Network (MLAN), a coalition of government workers who support one another’s language access efforts and share experiences, best practices, information, and resources, including services organizations have used, such as Pocketalk.

City of New Orleans Reaffirms Commitment to Home for Good Initiative, Housing Individuals Experiencing Unsheltered Homelessness

The City of New Orleans Office of Homelessness Services and Strategy remains steadfast in its dedication to the Home for Good New Orleans initiative, a collaborative effort to rehouse individuals experiencing homelessness. To date, the initiative has successfully connected 822 people with supportive housing, achieving more than half of its goal to house 1,500 individuals by the end of 2025.

City of New Orleans Announces Recipients of $1.14 Million in ARPA Funding for Homeless Shelter Support

The City of New Orleans today announced the organizations selected through a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) released by the Office of Homeless Services and Strategies (OHSS) for projects that provide assistance to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Orleans Parish. A total of $1.14 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding is being dispersed to seven different recipients.
