City of New Orleans to Host Abandoned Vehicle Auction, Encourages Residents to Register
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that the Department of Public Works (DPW) has placed an inventory of 89 abandoned, booted or ticketed vehicles up for public auction. Vehicles in the auction were removed from the public right-of-way after being abandoned by their owners.
The vehicle auction will be held Thursday, July 27, at 9 a.m. at 10200 Almonaster Ave. Residents interested in bidding on the auction can register and inspect the inventory on Wednesday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More details on the auction and vehicle inventory can be found at slidellauction.com/.
“Abandoned vehicles in the right-of-way create safety hazards by obstructing drivers’ line of sight and limiting pedestrian access,” said Sarah McLaughlin Porteous, Acting Director of DPW. “Removing these eyesores from public spaces demonstrates our commitment to improving quality of life for all residents throughout New Orleans.”
Winning bidders will be required to remove their vehicles by Monday, July 31, or vehicles will then become subject to daily storage fees.
Residents can continue reporting the locations of abandoned vehicles by calling 311.
