NOFD Responds to Fire at Senior Living Facility

On Friday, December 27, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a call of a reported fire at a building in the 2100 block of Royal St. At 8:36 a.m., the first NOFD company arrived at the Christopher Inn Apartments (2110 Royal St.), an eight story Senior Living Facility just outside of the French Quarter. Maintenance and engineering personnel advised firefighters that a fire, that had originated in the building’s Electrical Room, had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system prior to NOFD arrival.

Residents were advised to “shelter in place”, as firefighters worked to clear smoke from the halls and staircases. One resident was safely removed from an elevator stalled between the second and third floors. There were no injuries reported. This incident has been placed under control as of 8:46 a.m. Entergy is on the scene assisting with the mitigation of this incident and a power outage currently affecting the area.
