Purpose

The New Orleans Children and Youth Planning Board assists in the development, implementation and operation of services which encourage positive youth development, reduce youth crime and help curb juvenile delinquency.

The Board encourages collaborative efforts among stakeholders for assessing the physical, social, behavioral and educational needs of children and youth in their respective communities and assists in the development of comprehensive plans to address such needs.

Composition

The board consists of not less than eleven and not more than twenty-six members appointed by the City Council.

  • A representative of the City Council;
  • The Chief judge of juvenile court or designee;
  • The Orleans Parish District Attorney or designee;
  • The Director of Metropolitan Human Services District or designee;
  • The Director of Office of Criminal Justice or designee;
  • The Director of the City Health Department or designee;
  • The Director of the City Human Services Department or designee;
  • The Superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department or designee;
  • The Director of the New Orleans Recreation Department or designee;
  • The Director of The City’s Job One Office or designee;
  • The Superintendent of Orleans Parish Public School System or designee;
  • The Superintendent of Recovery School District or designee;
  • The Director of the Office of Family Services or designee;
  • The Regional Director of the Office of Juvenile Justice or designee;
  • A representative of the local business community;
  • A youth representative;
  • A representative of the faith-based community;
  • A representative of a local university;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: parents;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: adjudicated, incarcerated youth;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: school retention;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: out of school time;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: out of school youth;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: early childhood;
  • A representative of a local nonprofit organization providing services to children: special needs; and
  • A representative of neighborhoods.

Term Length

Two years.
