Purpose

The mission of the Orleans Parish Law Enforcement Streamline and Accountability Commission is to review and make recommendations on the effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services in New Orleans.

The Orleans Parish Law Enforcement Streamline and Accountability Commission will perform detailed investigations and analysis of the following:

  • The budget of the New Orleans Police Department and the budget of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office;
  • The number of individuals employed at each the New Orleans Police Department and the and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, including a comprehensive listing of the number of POST certified officers, administrative, and clerical personnel employed by each agency;
  • Services provided by the employees of each the New Orleans Police Department and Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, with any economies of scale that could be achieved by a merger of such services; and
  • The feasibility of any other efficiencies that can be realized through the streamlining of law enforcement resources;

Composition

  • Two members of the Louisiana State Senate appointed by the President;
  • Two members of the Louisiana House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker;
  • The Legislative Auditor or his designee; and
  • One member appointed by the Mayor of the City of New Orleans from three names submitted by the New Orleans City Council;

Term Length

The Commission shall terminate on March 14, 2016
