Purpose

The New Orleans Workforce Investment Board plans and oversees all workforce training and services and evaluation of all workforce development programs in its workforce development area to ensure outcomes consistent with statewide goals, objectives, and performance standards established by the commission.

Composition

The Mayor appoints members as follows:

  • The Mayor may appoint as many members as chosen but the board must be in compliance within required proportions:

  • 51% of Members must be representatives of the business sector
  • 20% of members must be workforce representatives
    • Two or more must be from Labor Organizations
    • One or more must be from Joint-Labor Management, union affiliated, apprenticeship programs
    • Others may representatives of community-based organizations that have expertise in addressing employment, training, or education needs of individuals with barriers to employment or representatives of community-based organizations that have expertise addressing employment, training or education needs of WIOA eligible youth including out-of-school youth
  • 2 or more education and training representatives
    • One must represent higher education
    • One must be eligible provider administering adult education and literacy activities representative
  • Minimum of four Government and Economic Development and Community representatives
    • One economic development representative
    • One Wagner-Peyser/Louisiana Workforce Representative
    • One vocational rehabilitation representative
    • Department of Children and Family Service Representative
  • Optional representatives representing agencies or entities administering programs serving local are or philanthropic organizations
