Purpose
The Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority is a political subdivision of the state of Louisiana. The Authority was created in 1978 by the Louisiana Legislature for the purpose of constructing and operating convention facilities in New Orleans. The Authority is made up of a board of Commissioners that oversees the New Orleans Public Facility Management Inc., a not-for-profit organization that runs and operates the Convention Center. The Authority's mission is to spur economic development by hosting tradeshows and conventions that attract out-of-state visitors to the area.
Composition
Twelve members.
- The Governor appoints three at-large members;
- The Mayor appoints one member with approval of the City Council;
- The Governor appoints one member from a list of three names submitted by the New Orleans Restaurant Association;
- The Governor appoints two members who reside in territorial limits of authority;
- The Governor appoints one member from a list of three names submitted by the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Motel Association;
- The Mayor of the City of New Orleans appoints one member from a list of three names submitted by the Greater New Orleans Tourist & Convention Commissioner with approval of the City Council;
- The Mayor of the City of New Orleans appoints one member from a list of three submitted by the Chamber-NO & River Region with approval of the City Council; and
- The Governor appoints one member who is a resident of the legislative district where the Convention Center is located selected by the State Representative and State Senator from the district.
