On August 20, 2015, the City Council passed Motion M-15-391 which directed the City Planning Commission to conduct a public hearing and study on the regulation of Short Term Rentals in the City of New Orleans. The study should consider amendments to the short term rental definition, limitations on the size of short term rentals, which districts short term rentals should be prohibited, conditional use, or permitted use, supplemental use standards, temporary use standards, national best practices, and consider changes to bed and breakfast regulations.
The City Planning Commission’s Planning and Special Projects Committee held a public hearing to seek input on the Short Term Rental Study on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in City Council Chamber. You may view the meeting on our Videos Page. On January 26, 2016, the City Planning Commission recommended the Short Term Rental Study for approval as amended and subsequently transmitted the document to the City Council.
